In the practice of teaching Chinese as a Second Language, the teaching of phonetics is merely dealt
\nwith in a concentrated form at the beginning stage of the teaching progress. Afterwards, in the
\nfollowing stages of teaching, there are hardly any specialized phonetic trainings integrated in the
\nChinese language classroom except for the correction of errors. Just as other essential factors in
\nthe teaching of languages, phonetics can reflect characteristics of different achievement stages, and
\ntherefore needs to be practiced accordingly to the design of different stages. Based on new
\nachievements in the research of teaching phonetics in the recent years and on the design of the
\nmain teaching materials of teaching Chinese language phonetics, this lecture will introduce principles
\nand characteristic features of teaching phonetics. The focus will lie on the characteristics of beginner,
\nintermediate and advanced Chinese language learners, investigating strategies of teaching
\nphonetics in different learning stages and how these teaching strategies can be applicable to
\nChinese language learners with German as their first language.<\/p>\n

\nThe lecture will be held in the Chinese language.<\/span><\/p>\n

Prof. MENG Li<\/strong>ngi<\/strong> is Profe\"\"ssor at the SDI University of Applied Languages in
\nMunich at the faculty of language and translation, specialized in Chinese, and
\nthe director of the Chinese language department and the dean of the Chinese-
\nGerman Translation department. His research interests are planning Chinese
\nas a second language teaching programs and the compilation of teaching
\nmaterial, as well as contrastive approaches of Chinese-German language
\nstudies and translation in this field. He has already been in charge of the
\ntranslation and editing of Hanban teaching materials, such as \u201cGreat Wall
\nChinese\u201d, \u201cLearn Chinese with Me\u201d (second edition), \u201cContemporary Chinese\u201d
\nand other German versions of teaching material. He furthermore repeatedly
